The perfect fit between body and machine, as comfort equals speed
The triathlon industry has witnessed a significant expansion in aerobar options in recent years. From the traditional designs of the past, we now have full-length forearm systems that offer both aerodynamics and comfort.
The KÚ TF1 comes with some impressive features, and the standard cockpit is no exception being fully equipped with the SRAM AXS shift system including the Zipp Vuka Shift AXS 90 extensions, which have wireless shifters and AXS system controllers built into them.
These components are fully integrated into the steerer pivot box and ‘F’-Duct front end of the TF1 playing a significant role in the unique aero performance of the TF1 to which our stable of Professional and Age Group World Champions would surely testify!
One of the key elements in customizing a bike’s cockpit is achieving a comfortable riding position. While the Zipp Vuka Shift AXS 90 extensions are excellent, they do lack full length forearm rests that represent the current trend in Triathlon.
Full length supports that terminate in a round tube are naturally compatible with the existing extension holder mounting hardware on the Kú TF1. Sliding simply into the extension holders in place of the Zipp Vuka AXS 90’s.
The SRAM Wireless Blips are a fantastic addition for triathlon bikes. These require pairing to the other items in the AXS system, notably front and rear derailleurs. To do this it is necessary to have an AXS controller, ‘Blip-Box’, this is built into the Vuka AXS 90 but if these have been replaced, pairing will require some alternative Blip-Box AXS controller.
In fact, any shifter unit with an AXS button will work for the pairing process, a set of AXS road levers for example. You don’t need a Blip Box on the bike. You just need a Blip Box or any of these other AXS shifters to pair the system.
Kú large armrest cups +
Kú one piece width extender + Profile Design 43ASC Extensions:
The standard Kú large armrest cup was designed to provide maximum support, stability and adjustment. In order to improve further on adjustability for riders wanting a wider elbow stance Kú have introduced a one-piece cup width extender.
This new component is stiffer and stronger than the existing single sided parts to allow heavier riders achieve a wider cup stance. The one-piece extender will also give an extra 5° of tilt to the armrest pads relative to the extension to allow the full length of the cup to activate, providing better elbow and forearm support.
A favourite of Dan Empfield, the Profile Design 43 ASC extensions have gained popularity due to their ergonomic design and versatility. They are compatible with the KÚ TF1’s extension holder and collet fixing system. They provide full forearm support and a comfortable handhold.
Profile Design recently introduced a shorter version of these extensions (340mm), making them even more suitable for a wider range of riders and bike setups. Dan personalised his own TF1 cockpit with this exact set up.
Using the Kú snap together holders securely allows the SRAM wireless blips to be mounted in the grip section of the Profile Design 43ASC extensions.
This solution is not confined to the Profile Design 43ASC, the one piece width extender and extension blip holders open the options for the Kú TF1 cockpit to any extension form terminating in a standard 22mm round end.
At the Kona Ironman World Championships in 2022 even a cursory look over the Pro bikes checked into T1 revealed the predominance of these long, fully supporting, ‘aero’ armrest cups.
The FastTT aerobar is highlighted as one of the most ergonomic and comfortable options available of the new breed of full-length aerobars that combine both cup and extension into a single unit. Designed by Wayne Attwell, a passionate time trialist, these aerobars prioritize user comfort and functionality.
In association with FastTT, Kú have developed a mounting to integrate the FastTT hardware to the TF1. This mounting preserves the beneficial aerodynamic interaction of the aerobars and the ‘F’-Ducts, while allowing a wide range of adjustment for the perfect fit.
The FastTT full forearm extensions provide better support and stability, especially during longer rides. Perfect if you are seeking to further customise your set up on the TF1

A recent criticism of these bars is that they are currently lacking an integrated front hydration option on the bars themselves. This is not a problem for the TF1 as they work perfectly with the aero proven benefits of the unique BTA system integrated onto the TF1.

Customizing your bike’s cockpit is a personal journey that can greatly enhance your riding experience. The KÚ TF1 offers a solid foundation with its SRAM AXS shift system and Zipp Vuka Shift AXS 90 extensions.
However, to truly personalise your setup, you can explore options like the Profile Design 43ASC extensions, (or any preferred extension with a standard round termination) with secure wireless blip mountings integrating with your existing TF1 extension holder mounting hardware.
In the extreme you can follow the Pro trend and adopt the state of the art in full length aerobars from FastTT.
As the triathlon industry continues to evolve, we will continue to innovate so you’ll have a growing array of cockpit components to choose from, allowing you to create the perfect setup for your riding style and preferences.
